Top 9 Attractions in Mangualde, Viseu



The virus pushed us to re-explore Portugal, to see and get to know areas that we hadn't visited for decades
decades. The Viseu area was one of those chosen for a family weekend, while
Mangualde was the one that stayed in our hearts.
We didn't know Mangualde, nor had we ever heard of it, but after some research
i became curious about the Condes de Anadia Palace.
Mangualde is a small town 20 minutes from Viseu, in the center of the Beira Alta region
for its big town festivals, usually at the end of August. And of course for its traditional sweets
of conventual origin from the Pastelaria do Patronato, especially the Feijão jam!

Misericórdia Church of Mangualde

The main church in the town of Mangualde dates back to the 18th century, with its baroque style and typical tower
sacristy and halls of the Misericórdia churches of that time.

Alcafache Thermal Baths

A wonderful spa that offers, in addition to water rich in sulphate, sodium and bicarbonate, a
massages with mud, jacuzzis and more.

Sanctuary of Our Lady of the Castle



A Baroque-style chapel dating from 1832, situated at the highest point of the town with a privileged view over it
over the village. If you're adventurous, you can leave the car at the bottom and enjoy the huge staircase
to the top of the hill where the hermitage is located.

is not very easy, but GPS helps. Today it is privately owned, but the dirt tracks
to get there have a superb view of the monastery.
